Frequently Asked Questions

  • Pretrial service agencies conduct interviews and risk assessments on newly arrested defendants and provide that information to the judge so that they can make an informed and reasonable decision regarding pretrial release. Pretrial service agencies (PSA) provide supervision and monitoring of the defendants that are released in order to emphasize the defendant's obligation to return to court by providing court date reminders and abide by the conditions of release. PSAs provide additional services in an effort to mitigate any perceived threat or risk to the community that the defendant may pose, such as GPS monitoring, drug and/or alcohol testing, and different levels of supervision just to name a few. The PSA may also make referrals for counseling, substance abuse treatment, and assist with securing employment. PSAs can also conduct follow-up reviews on those defendants that were not able to meet the conditions for release and are still being detained as a result. The goal of PSAs is to secure the greatest number of pretrial detainee's release, to the least restrictive environment possible, while maximizing court attendance and public safety.

  • In addition to providing the courts with the necessary and pertinent information to make an informed and reasonable release or detention decision about a defendant, and the additional services to support those decisions, PSAs benefit the courts and communities in several ways:
    1) They reduce the number of pretrial detainees being incarcerated in county jails, thereby reducing the financial burden of housing them, and freeing space for serious and violent offenders.
    2) PSAs provide supervision and monitoring of defendants discouraging misconduct and encouraging court attendance.
    3) They provide various intervention and referral services, depending on the defendant's risks and needs, in an attempt to break the cycle of criminality and asssure the defendant's success while on release.
    4) By providing the supervision, monitoring, and intervention services allows courts to more confidently release pretrial detainees without requiring burdensome cash bonds, which ultimately returns the defendant to the community without significant supervision, or a network of support.

  • Fee structures vary in every industry and are largely based on the companies goals and expenses. Our goal is to be an asset to the judicial system in assisting judges in making informed, reasonable, release decisions thereby reducing their docket load, freeing space for more pressing matters and cases than conducting detention hearings every so many days on the same defendants. We also want to help as many pretrial defendants as possible and keeping our fees as low as we possibly can helps us to achieve this goal. We have over 30-years experience working and being actively involved in the criminal justice system. This level of active involvement has lead to the development of relationships with representatives from numerous companies providing complementary products and services. As such, we are able to get our supplies directly from manufacturers, so there is no middle man mark-up. This allows us to provide some of the best technology in the industry at prices that are very hard to beat. Our goal to be a valuable resource for courts, affordable for defendants, in order to help the largest number of people also motivates us to keep our profit margin, and fee structure, low, regardless of what others in the same market might be charging.
